The Social Development Strategy is an evidence-based model that focuses on actionable protective factors to encourage positive youth development.

Montrose Communities that Care has identified early use of substances in our youth as a risk factor in our community, based on data collected through survey results.  To buffer or help protect our youth from this risk, the following 5 key components come into play.  Ultimately, our goal is healthy behaviors in our youth.

Youth need opportunities in our community to connect with caring adults and develop age-appropriate skills.  Being recognized for their efforts and successes helps to build bonding, attachment and commitment to families, schools, community and healthy peer groups.  As a result, healthy beliefs and clear standards become the compass for healthy behaviors and choices.

The Montrose Communities that Care Coalition aims to develop a Social Development Strategy in our community in the 4th phase of our mission to support our youth in leading healthy lives.
